That is the elementalist mission in wizard's folly.

W/E for damage, conjure element and some PBAOE.
W/Mo Judges Insight and Strength of Honor.

If you don't ever have a monk in your party I would go with W/Mo using axes and Live Vicariously. (make sure to have the cyclone axe skill on your bar)

Simon I think you misunderstand the meaning of tank. Tanking is taking all the damage for the team and not dying. It's not about doing damage. It's basically being a meatshield. So no, W/E is not "the tankest of the tank."

In fact, a tank doesn't have to do any damage at all. Some of the best tanks I've seen in PvE have no points invested in weapon skills and use tactics/secondary to keep them alive.

almost everyone would say Monk because you get the dmg of warrior plus the healing power of monk which make a pretty good tank character. But for me, i made the mistake of getting a Warrior and Elementlist. (i know, what was i thinking ) A warriors doesn't have that much mana to begin with unless you buy armors that give you +5, or +10 in mana than you got enough to use for spell. But after playing as a W/E, i have to say that its a decent combo, you can cast fire storm or metors storm than run up to the enemies and kill them with melee attacks.

Yeah - W/E is a good combo, but I wouldn't use energy on a meteor shower. It'll work, but be tough in the long run, and when you waste it, you've just wasted all your energy.

I prefer a good conjure element to add damage to each strike. Also Air has some decent knock-downs/weakens. Earth is probably my favorite with the armor spells and Crystal Wave - a good Point Blank AOE spell (although Fire has some really good PBAOEs too) Water Trident is one of the best PvP spells around when you've been hacking someone down and they run away.

W/E could be the best tanker if you wanted it to be. It would just require a bit of Earth protection skills to boost your armor and everything. Then you would take minimal damage and dish out a great amount of damage at the same time =)

Gladiator armor would be a good choice for a W/E as you would get some energy bonus.

I beg to differ. I have a war/el char and am very effective. Try it sometime, its a very fun build to play with. I also have 37 energy. Not great but perfect for what i need. I switch between air and earth magic.

I'm going to assume that you plan to PvE with this character. Any secondary class works but Monk and Elementalist are two of the more popular ones. As a monk, you can either be healer, protector, or smiter. As a healer, you shouldn't be healing other people since you do not have the Monk's Divine Favor attribute which boosts your healing. You should focus more on enchantments that keep you alive, such as Mending, Live Vicariously, Vigorous Spirit, Healing Hands and occassionally casting a healing spell if absolutely necessary (since you have very limited mana and its not even close to being as effective as a true healing monk casts it). My personal favorite is a protector. It allows you to absorb tons of damage and later on heal yourself too. Shielding hands is cheap and with good armor you are virtually invulnerable to normal attacks (only high power spells and hexes/conditions can hurt you). When you get some higher level spells like Shield of Regeneration you can heal very effectively and even use protection spells on your teammates to turn them into temporary tanks if for you reason you fail to draw the monsters attention to you. As a smiter, you will use stuff like Strength of Honor and Judge's Insight to boost your attack power and deal tons of damage. Personally I hate PvE Warrior/Monk smiters. Yes, they do alot of damage, but they rely on monks to keep them alive. This means less healing and less tanking for other party members. And in PvE, you will never do more damage than having 3-5 monsters properly tanked (bunched together and hitting you) and having an Elementalist blow the entire group away with one spell.

I started out with a Warrior/Monk healer simply because there didn't seem to be that many protection spells available early and mending virtually made me invulnerable to lower level monsters. However, as the game progressed and monsters got stronger and more in number, healing became inadequate without the primary Monk's Divine Favor and I turned into a protector. I tried playing smiter but found that not to my liking because a protector can accomplish the same thing a little bit slower but more effectively. What people don't understand is that if you can keep yourself alive with a stance and keep an ally alive with a protection spell, your monk will have much less work to do and your casters can focus on doing the high damage.

I haven't actually tried playing a Warrior Elementalist, but the basic rundown of that is to use some of the Elementalists spells that gives protection so you can survive longer or use something like Conjure Fire to improve your attack damage. The powerful high costing spells should be avoided because warriors do not have enough energy (that's what the rest of your team is for).

For PvE:
w/e with wards makes a really nice tank. Then you have conjure *element* for those that dont use earth.

I used w/r until ascension & it was pointless (for me): pet needs to many skills to be good, traps cost too much energy, stances depend on expertise or double those of warrior, markmanship pointless for a warrior (get a crappy longbow without reqs for pulling).
One combo I used alot is to start a stance then cast Healing Spring to make sure melee heanchmen survive.

I switched to w/n after ascension & I am having alot more fun, mark of pain/fear makes mob handling alot easier.
Then you can also play around with conditions because you have the hp to spare (after inflicting them yourself or from mobs, plague touch/sending, or signet).
Remmember that those "useless" poison/bleed weapon upgrades add even if its not from a weapon skill

lol you dont need much Total Energy if your a player that uses his head... i play a w/e and i never find myself needing much more then 20 energy but sometimes i opt for a +12 icon instead of a shield and use AoE that gives me +40 or so armor all over which is much better then a shield.

Now once you cast Firestorm and Aromor of earth thats cost 25 total while having a +12 icon you have at least 7+ points left go into close combat use Warriors Endurance which gives +3 energy per hit you will not have to worry about energy.

I find waiting for my skill recharge to be the problem not my energy.

Warrior elementals can be one of the best alternatives to Warrior monks which populate 95% of all warriors. A pairing of earth magic, a weapon, and strength or tactics can be perfect. My warrior/elemental ILikeRice is 75k Ascalon warrior with earth magic not to high but around 10-11 with swordsmanship and tactics. It is one of the best ways to tank it in my opinion. W/mo's can heal and don't get me wrong thats good! But if you dont even take the damage like I do you wont need the healing to badly. Healing signets do just fine with armor of earth and attack skills.

My guildmate uses W/Ne and it's very effective at keeping him alive. He throws on Siphon and Parasite and kills other monsters. I have W/E and I went for Water and seek Trident and use Armor of Frost and Conjure Frost.

I love Conjures and it makes Flurry a nice adrenal fueler since the lack of damage you traded for speed is made up by the Conjure, and Flurry costs no AL loss or such like Frenzy or takes much energy with long waits like For Great Justice. JMO

But for sheer staying power, the greatest display of staying alive is W/Mo. They are the ones running to Droknar's and such.

As an aside, I find that if you have 2 warriors in your group you like to play with, then having one be a Tank like W/Mo or W/Ne and the other a W/E is nice since the W/E can target the "must die" guy and the tank can rush in first and not die. I usually go hit the mesmer/healer/boss etc.

a W/E can be very effective offensively with the conjure element combo.

W/N I used to use and is good in pvp for things like grenths balance and plague touch, which is very nice for turning the tables on your enemy sword wielding warrior that keeps using that pesky sever artery on you.
